The Bowen Museum and Historical Society is an important source of information for researchers and family historians.
We hold the full collection of Bowen Independent newspapers, stored digitally, on micro film, and as hard copies. All newspapers were stored as hard copies initially but are now also catalogued as digital copies – this makes research much easier! Our volunteers are able to assist with sourcing information, particular dates and research topics.
The museum is also an important keeper of family records from the region, dating back to the 1860s. All immigration records are stored at the Bowen Museum on micro film. Many of our pioneering families are represented in the collection and we might hold that missing piece of information you’ve been searching for!
If you are travelling to our museum for research from outside the region, we suggest contacting us beforehand. Our team will make every endeavour to assist you in sourcing the information and research you require.
